Real Honeymoon: Riviera Maya

Today we have another beautiful Real Honeymoon in Riviera Maya, Mexico! I absolutely LOVE sending clients to this part of Mexico because it has pristine beaches, five-star restaurants, and impeccable service. Hotels like Rosewood Mayakoba have redefined what it means to be a luxury resort with a level of taste and service that leaves their guests with one question- when can they go back?!

For Robert & Susan, the Rosewood Mayakoba was just perfect. When these two were trying to pick where to spend their honeymoon, they agreed on several things: they both wanted somewhere not too far from home, a tropical destination, the ability to sight-see if they had the urge, and the ability to spend some days on the beach. They also agreed that they weren't looking for a huge hotel, but more of an intimate hideaway with a relaxing atmosphere. After thumbing through some other options, the two decided that Rosewood Mayakoba was the perfect spot.

Between lazy days by the pool sipping tequila, to nights spent dancing in their suite, Robert & Susan made time for day trips to visit tourist sites and for activities, but the two were always happy to get back to their suite at the Rosewood Mayakoba. The hotel and staff really made the trip extra special and they even upgraded the honeymooners to an Ocean View Suite with a private pool so the two could enjoy the breathtaking rooftop terrace. Awesome, right?!

Luxurious, romantic, & relaxing – the Rosewood Mayakoba was just the ticket for these two newlyweds. I am so happy they had such an amazing time! I mean, how could you not?? This resort is beautiful!!

Real Honeymoon: Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Playa del Carmen is definitely one of my favorite destinations for a honeymoon.  There are gorgeous beaches, a vibrant downtown area filled with beach bars and shops, and incredible resorts.  Plus you can visit Mayan ruins and there are a lot of fun water sports close by.

Adam and Malia recently stayed at The Royal in Playa del Carmen for their honeymoon.  This is a gorgeous all inclusive resort located on the beach.  They are such an adorable couple- you will definitely agree by the end of this post!

  1. Where did you go?
We went to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

  1. How did you decide on this destination?
It had everything we were looking for…white sand beaches, affordable, not an overly long flight, and it was all-inclusive.

  1. Did you like where you stayed?
Yes!! The Royal was amazing. All the amenities were over the top spectacular. The food was amazing; the drinks (which were included) were fantastic and not cheap liquor, which I appreciated. I loved that it was close to 5th avenue and the shopping. There was so much to do, but also a great place to just lie around the pool and relax.

***Some bars on 5th Avenue in downtown Playa del Carmen have swings instead of barstools- how cute is that???

  1. What did you think about the destination?
It was a great destination. I have been to Mexico before but the Caribbean side gave us both a different impression. It was clean, the people were so nice and it felt that we were a bit secluded which I enjoyed.

  1. What was your favorite part of your honeymoon?
My favorite part of the honeymoon was relaxing by the pool. After all the planning and chaos of the wedding events it was so good to have a cocktail waitress attend to me while I lounged poolside all day. My husband’s favorite was visiting Chitiniza: the Mayan ruins. It was great that we both got to enjoy a bit of our favorite parts of a vacation. Playa Del Carmen’s location provided lots of activities to do, so we were both very happy!

  1. Did the hotel provide any special honeymoon perks for you?
Our bed was decorated with rose petals when we arrived. We requested the room have a “romantic” feel, so everyday our turn down service included romantic aromas and décor on the bed. It made for a very romantic honeymoon. They also provided a bottle of champagne and a mini cake upon arrival. On our last day they sent up chocolate covered strawberries as well. I loved that they recognized and celebrated this wonderful event.

  1. Do you have any suggestions for other couples going on a similar honeymoon?
Make sure and talk with your new spouse about what they expect from this trip. Adam and I think of vacations very differently: I like to relax and he likes adventure. We were able to find a location that offered both.

  1. What 3 words would you use to describe your honeymoon?
Romantic, Relaxing and Adventurous

Real Honeymoon: Playa Mujeres Mexico

I am very happy to share the amazing honeymoon of Adam and Jenny.  They recently went to Playa Mujeres, Mexico for their honeymoon and stayed at Excellence Playa Mujeres.  This is a gorgeous, adults only, all inclusive resort just north of Cancun.  I hope you enjoy reading about their honeymoon!

  1. Where did you go?
Excellence Playa Mujeres in Mexico

  1. How did you decide on this destination?
We wanted a very relaxing honeymoon, so we decided to focus on the Caribbean/Mexico for our destination.  After looking at probably over 20 resorts we landed on the Excellence brand.  They just seemed to have everything we wanted:  All inclusive, adults only, relaxing, secluded, and luxury.  Then we decided on Playa Mujeres because it was the newest of their resorts and just seemed to fit exactly what we wanted.

  1. Did you like where you stayed?
We LOVED Excellence Playa Mujeres.  We stayed in a junior suite within the Excellence Club.  While the Excellence Club is definitely not necessary to have an enjoyable stay, we appreciated the extra perks such as the in room liquor and the private beach.  However, I think it would have been wonderful even if we hadn’t splurged for the Excellence Club.

  1. What did you think about the destination?
The beach was beautiful and the water was very clear with the exception of a little seaweed that was not a bother at all.  It was quite warm since it was June in Mexico, but the beach provided a good constant breeze and the ocean was the perfect temperature to cool you off.

  1. What was your favorite part of your honeymoon?

For me it was definitely laying on the beach and not really having to move since they would take your drink order, my husband would probably say the deep sea fishing we did with Aqua World.  They have an office onsite at the resort and you can book water excursions through them.

  1. Did the hotel provide any special honeymoon perks for you?
Yes, with the proof of our marriage, they did a special in-room breakfast, a special dinner one night, a banner on our door noting that it was our honeymoon, champagne in our room, a special turn down service, and we received 15% off our spa visit for a couples massage.

  1. Do you have any suggestions for other couples going on a similar honeymoon?
Bring lots of sunscreen with you as it is much more expensive on the resort and even though tip is included, we were really glad we brought plenty of ones to tip a dollar here and there.  From what we found, they don’t make much money and the service was really exceptional so it was worth it to us to tip a small amount even though it was definitely not required.

  1. What 3 words would you use to describe your honeymoon?
Relaxing, indulgent, and romantic.

    Riviera Maya

Riviera Maya, Mexico is one of my favorite honeymoon destinations.  Riviera Maya is the area between Cancun and Playa del Carmen.

Here are some of my favorite things about this destination:

-Quick Flight- It is a short flight from almost everywhere in the United States, and flights are pretty inexpensive.  This means less of your time and budget is spent on a long flight, and more is spent at the beach of a gorgeous resort!

-Beautiful Beaches- I will let the pictures do the talking for this one!

-Close to both Cancun and Playa del Carmen- If you want some nightlife or shopping, both Cancun and Playa del Carmen are very close.  I love downtown Playa del Carmen- 5th Avenue is filled with little shops, bars and restaurants, and there are fun bars right down on the beach.

-Incredible Resorts- Whatever type of resort you are looking for, you will find it here.  There are all inclusive resorts ranging in price and size, smaller boutique style resorts, and high end luxury resorts.

-Fun activities- You can do as much or as little as you want.  Most resorts offer complimentary water activities, or you can sign up for tours such as horseback riding, fishing, snorkeling, or a jungle tour.  You can also visit the Mayan Ruins at Chichen Itza.

My favorite resorts in this area are Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita, The Royal in Playa del Carmen, Excellence Riviera Cancun, El Dorado Maroma, and Banyan Tree Mayakoba.
